Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. However, for an Irish girl surrounded with gifted parents and extended families, these characteristics were a naturally. Maureen was born in Ranelagh which was a suburb in Dublin in Ireland on the 17th of August 1920. Marguerita Lilburn FitzSimons was her mom. She was an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman in Dublin who also controlled a portion of the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons was the second daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons, Florrie Fitzsimons Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons rounded out the wonderful family. Maureen loved playing rough sports when she was a kid and was very proficient at them. This interest was combined with a natural talent for performance. That was apparent that she was the winner of every Feis in drama and theatre which Ireland could offer. When she turned 14, the Abbey Theater accepted her and permitted her to pursue her passion for classical theatre and opera singing.
